The Brazilian born Australian lightweight, Bernardo ‘Trekko’ Magalhaes, scored an impressive victory this weekend on the PWP5 fight night at Sharkies Leagues Club, Cronulla. Up against the very strong and resilient Sonny Brown (Langes MMA Manly), Trekko’s close study of his opponent paid off, finishing Brown with some solid ground and pound on his home turf in the Sutherland Shire in round 1.
“It is such a good feeling, it is always great to fight in Cronulla, all the guys from the gym are here, the people that support us are around, it’s a dream come true to have this support and win at home”, said Trekko.
“Everything went really well, what I thought was going to happen in the cage did happen, I was getting more confident as it went on. He came to me and was really aggressive and when you study a fighter it’s really important to know what your opponent wants”, said Trekko.
Supporting Trekko on the fight card were TP Gym / Double Dragon teammates, Ben Lewis and Zein Saliba. Saliba showed his wrestling skills with a superb display of takedowns to earn a unanimous points decision over Marc Gehret. Ben Lewis was taken out with a Technical Knock out by Jon Marco Sanchez (Full Circle MMA) in an exciting fight most of the crowd were touting as the fight of the night.
In the semi-main event, Spanish fighter Oriol Gaset (fighting out of KMA Liverpool) wasted no time taking down Jacob Pettett (Gracie Central Coast) and submitting him with a deep arm bar.
Special guest Danny Green took time out and went cage side, trying his hand at commentating the live feed that broadcast the fight to everyone that couldn’t make it on the night.
“I’m really happy to be invited here, I’ve been to a lot of shows and promotions in the world, but this is a great set up and atmosphere for a local show. Streaming it to the public and getting it out there is great”.
“I don’t go to alot of MMA shows and I appreciate anyone that gets in there and has a go, these guys put it all on the line against their opponents who have done the same and it makes for a great show”, said Danny Green who has been fighting for world titles for the last ten years.
